In just two short minutes, we will have a winner. Who will that winner be? Tropical Storm and CS Tropical Class are sired by a Derby winner and are certainly bred to go the distance. Then we have Cold Wave who is sired by the immortal Triple Crown winner, Secretariat. This big bay son of Secretariat has qualifyed for all three Triple Crown Races. He is also bred to go the distance. And now Native Son, sired by Fly So Free, out of a Sea Hero mare. He has been campaigned since a two year old to get to this point. And now we have the only filly in the Derby field, Romancing Superstitions. Can she beat the boys? She has certainly beat a field of boys in the prep races, but can she do it in the Kentucky Derby? And last, but not least, Grabba Jabba. Grabba Jabba was the Derbys first qualifyer and is owned by America Grand Racing Center. POST TIME: It has been raining since the early morning here in Churchill. The track is muddy, weather gloomy, but the rain has let up a bit. A gentle mist is now falling from the sky. How will the rain and muddy track affect todays runners? Here is Allie with the call: It's ladies first for the post parade as Romancing Superstitions steps onto the track first, she looks full of herself today folks, Thorwing her weight into the leading pony. Next out is CS Tropical Class, he doesn't seem ot like the mud on today's sloppy track. Tropical Storm is next an d he's nice a quiet as walks out. Cold Wave, who gave the track staff some trouble in the paddock seems to have settled. And out comes Grabba Jabba, he looks fit as a fiddle, He's only raced once since qualifying. And finally Native Son, who has cantered off with his lead pony, looks ready for todays race. They are being lead down the stretch to the gate and they are all loading quietly, except for the Filly who is a knock gate trouble maker. Romancing Superstitions is balking at the gate. The gate hand are ready though. The filly rears, and her jockey sticks it, and they've got five gatehands on her, and she's still fighting but she's loading now. The gate is waiting, you can feel the stadium itself stop breathing. What is the Gatekeeper waiting for? Four on the floor, and THEY'RE OFF!! The break is clean but Tropical Storm stumbles out of the gate and bumps CS Tropical Class. They fall behind as the rest of th e field takes off. Grabba Jabba has taken the early lead with Cold Wave and Native Son stalking the lead. Romancing Superstitions is a length back from the pair. CS Tropical Class is recovering from that nasty bump and moving up nicely to hang behind Romancing Superstitions. Tropical Storm is still recovering from the trip in the begining but he's catching his stride. They sweep into the turn without much movement, but as they come out of it Native Son is making a bid to push past Cold Wave and it moving up the backstretch in pursuit of Grabba Jabba. As they move through the stretch, Romancing Superstitions is kicking up the pace a bit, getting ready to chase down the lead. In the back Cs Tropical Class and Tropical Storm are together but aren't turn on the speed just yet. Back up to the front, Grabba Jabba hasn't seen Native son yet! Native son has swung around Cold Wave and it starting to stretch out as them come in to the turn! Romancing Superstitions is coming out of nowhere! She's around Cold Wave and is pouring on the speed. Cold Wave is on her heel's! CS Tropical Class and Tropical Storm are together, keeping up with the field but they don't seem to be with this race today, such a bad break for theseb two beautiful horses. The rest of the field is sweeping through the turn and are buckling down for the stretch run. It's Grabba Jabba, with the lead, Native Son is right behind with Romancing Superstitions and Cold Wave coming on strong. Behind them is Tropical Storm and CS Tropical Class, 3 lengths behind the pack. AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME! Native Son has had enough of Grabba Jabba and is pouring on the speed. They meet and Native Son is in the lead, look at that stride!! The lovely lady is tired of the boys and is chasing after Native Son, she's opening up that famous stride that got her here and is breaing down on Native S on. Cold Wave is trying to follow but Grabba Jabba isn't ready to give up just yet and is pulling even with Cold Wave as he chases after the front runners. And we've got another duel! CS Tropical Class and Tropical Storm are chasing down the field but don't want to give up the spot! Look at that folks, six horses all locked in duels! I've never seen anything like it! Up in Front Native Son and Romancing Superstitions are pushing the distance between the others, Native Son, no, Romancing Superstitions! And Native Son finds another gear! He's pulling away! Native Son! Native Son is going to pull away by a neck to WIN THE KENTUCKY DERBY! It's Native Son, Romancing Superstitions in second place, and then Cold Wave who pushes his head out at the wire to beat Grabba Jabba, and Bringing up the rear its CS Tropical Class and then Tropical Storm, after a bad break at the gate and a rough bump they finish only a half a length off of Grabba Jabba. Congratulations to Native Son, the second winner of the Kentucky Derby! ____________________________________ RESULTS WIN: Native Son PLACE: Romancing Superstitions SHOW: Cold Wave 4TH: Grabba Jabba 5TH: CS Tropical Class 6TH: Tropical Storm All results were tabulated by using http://www.randomizer.org The post posistions were randomized once and one time only.
