PURSE: $34,000 Hello and welcome to Pimlico Race Course, which is located in Baltimore, Maryland! As you all know, the Preakness is the second, and shortest, leg of the Triple Crown. The first Preakness was held in 1873, was a 1 1/2 mile race, and won by a horse named Survivor. The Preakness has had many distance changes, but in 1925 it was set at what it is today and will continue to stay 1 3/16 miles. Alright, enough history! Breeder: Celtic Meadows Stable State Bred: KY Welcome to Pimlico here in beautiful Maryland. It’s been beautiful all week, until yesterday and the weather closed in. There was a break today until around 3 this afternoon. It’s been coming in heavy, scattered showers since then. After the rain yesterday the track has been listed as slow and sloppy. This is good news for the closers, this slop had been a heaven for them while draining the pace setters. For the post parade and race the skies are lightly cloudy with a nice spring temperature of 69 degrees and no rain! And here come the horses… First out is CRS Royally Stylish, this Palomino filly wowed the folks down at the Derby and is back to collect the second jewel of the Visa Triple Crown Challenge. She’s wound tightly today; you can see her reaction to the roars of the crowd. She’s obviously the crowd favorite. Next out we’ve got The Ring Bearer, a colt out of Rejection. He’s wound tight too, but sweating like it is raining. Third up is CRS Starstruck Lady, she gave our favorite quite a challenge in the Run for the Roses two weeks ago, can she catch the favorite and steal the black-eyed Susan’s? There’s some commotion as CRS Kestrel is lead onto the track, he seems to be giving the handlers some trouble, wanting to get away. Next we have CRS Clue In the Stars who is clam and collected. Even as some thunder rolls in the distance. CRS Clue In the Stars looks like a large predator, stalking out the group of horses, its almost as if she’s looking at our favorite! Our next horse was scratch, and now we are onto Zeus a bay Canada colt, slightly unknown these horses has proven that he belongs here, can he overturn the favorite? Next out is KF Devine Light a grey filly from Lilac Hills, looks calm and collected as ever. Finally we have CM Golden Attitude how is fighting with the lead pony, giving the crowd a slight laugh as she kicks out. Our horses are around to the gate and are loading quietly. Leaving Spot six empty the horses all load nice and calmly into the gate. Only a balk from CM Golden Attitude holds up the start, she’s in and we are ready to go. AND THEY’RE OFF! The bell rings and is echoed by the roar of the crowd. CRS Kestrel is out first with The Ring-Bearer. They’ve commanded the lead in the slop. CRS Starstruck Lady is followed closely by CM Golden Attitude. Zeus is just to the outside of CM Golden Attitude, avoiding most of the heavy mud. CRS Royally Stylish, KF Devine Light, and CRS Clue in the Stars are hanging back from the pack, letting the speed demons fight it out. We move pas the crowd for the first time without much change and sweep into the first turn. KF Devine Light is falling behind CRS Clue in the Stars, while CRS Kestrel and The Ring-Bearer continue to push the pace in this mess of a track. The line as we come across the back stretch is CRS Kestrel, with The Ring-Bearer right behind. CRS Starstruck Lady is next with CM Golden Attitude with Zeus settled just outside of them. Finally we’ve got CRS Clue in the Stars followed by KF Devine Light, and then CRS Royally Stylish. At the top of the final turn the last three horses are making their move! CRS Royally Stylish and CRS Clue In the Stars and leaving KF Devine Light behind as the two match up and sweep towards the field. Can the catch the leaders?! AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME!!! The field sweeps into the turn and CRS Kestrel and The Ring-Bearer are fading fast. Zeus is making his move and pulling into the lead. CM Golden Attitude is close behind. The crowd is on its feet! Here comes CRS Royally Stylish and CRS clue In the Stars! They are over taking the field in long sweeping strides. CRS Clue in the Stars is at the whip but CRS Royally Stylish is still at a hand ride! They’re not far from the line! Will they do it? This will be so close! CRS royally Stylish is at the whip and pulling away, she’s caught Zeus and is sailing by! She’s going to win it! CRS Clue in the Stars is driving and looking for more but second will have to be good enough! THERE’S THE WIRE! CRS Royally Stylish has won it! She’s captured the Black Eyed Susan’s! She’s WON! CRS clue in the Stars is second be a length, followed by Zeus at a half. CM Golden is a half length back from Zeus. CRS Starstruck Lady is an easy two length’s back followed closely by a late charging KF Devine Light. At the back and losing ground is CRS Kestrel and The Ring-Bearer, spent form their early speed duel, the slop took its toll. Now its off to the Belmont for CRS Royally Stylish...and possibly the last jewel of the crown.
