Well, we have finally made it to the last leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. Our seven contenders today have worked very hard to get here and are ready to run the grueling mile and a half. Today's forecast calls for a very cloudy day with periods of light rain. The high today will be a cool sixty eight degrees fahrenheit. There is a semi-strong wind blowing in from the northeast at 10 to 20 mph. Post time is at 6:50 pm EST and there may be a chance of rain at post time. We have four fillies in today's race. In postposition one, we have WB Pretty In Pink. Bred by Westbrook Farms, she is out of their top stallion, and former racer himself, AK Indy. She is out of a a fiery red roan mare named Lady In Red. In postposition number two; we have CS True Legacy. This big filly was bred by Ale Di Cielo and is owned by its owner. She is out of Tropical Designation, a champions of champions, a sire of champions, and the 2001 Kentucky Derby winner. In post position number three, we have the Preakness winner, Romancing Superstitions. Another filly owned and bred by Ale Di Cielo. She is hard as nails and is probably the toughest filly for our colts to beat. She is the favorite in today's race. In post position number six, we have our fourth filly, SBS Tropic Topic WP. She is also owned by Ale Di Cielo, but was bred by Shirley at White Pines Stable. Her sire, like many in our field today, is Tropical Designation. Now onto the colts. We have a small field of colts today, only three. In post position number four, we have Native Son. Owned and bred by Lilac Hills, he is by Fly So Free, winner of over two million dollars and over seven graded races. Out of Too Victorious (Unraced), Native Son's grandsire is Sea Hero, another horse who has won over two million dollars and the 1993 Kentucky Derby winner. In post position number five, we have Cold Wave. Bred by Silverstone Acres and owned by Ale Di Cielo, he is by the immortal Secretariat, the 1973 Triple Crown winner. He is of the Canadian bred mare, Chilly (Nearctic x Cut Flower) who is the damn of ten, now eleven, champions. Cold Wave has qualified for all three Triple Crown races, but has never won one. Could today be the day? And finally, in post position number seven, we have Tropical Storm. Bred by Westbrook Farms and owned by Lilac Hills, he is also sired by Tropical Designation. Out of Chasing Stars, a mare who has only been shown in halter classes and never proved herself on the racetrack. Tropical Storm placed sixth in the Kentucky Derby, skipped the Preakness, and will now challenge our Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner. POST TIME: There were light showers this morning, but the track has dried and it is now fast! Here is Allie with the call of the race: Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Belmont park. Our horses are coming out onto the track for the Belmont Stakes and making the post parade for today's huge crowds. Hundreds have turned out on such an icky day to see the two rivals, Native Son and Romancing Superstitions. They've been within inches of each other in the Derby and the Preakness, and they seem to be the popular pair. A cheer is roaring through out the crowd as Native Son steps out right behind Romancing Superstitions, the crowd really does love those two. The horses are coming around to the gate and the gate hands are starting to load. WB Pretty In Pink loads quietly in the first slot, up next its CS True Legacy who pauses bit but a little push from behind and he's in. Next its Romancing Superstitions and she's already throwing her head. The gate hands are ready for the tough fillies little attitude. They go right for ear twitches and she's pausing and then loads. Native Son is pushing his gate hands forward; he's ready to go! Next up its Cold Wave, prancing he loads but doesn't seem to want to stand still. SBS Tropic Topic WP loads next and does so quietly, such a lady this mare. And finally Tropical Storm is pricking her ears but walks in nicely. The hands are trying to settle Cold Wave, who isn't being quiet. Wait! He's settled and the bell is sounded! AND THEY'RE OFF!! Cold Wave was not ready for the bell and breaks late. Our first its WB Pretty In Pink, the little speed demon and it looks like she's in full form to set a blistering pace. Tropical Storm is chasing her down, with SBS Tropic Topic WP. Romancing Superstitions is next with CS True Legacy on her inside and Native Son on her outside. Cold Wave is slightly trailing the field, tough break. There is some jostling between all of the horses as WB Pretty In Pink pulls away from Tropical Storm with SBS Tropic Topic WP to up the speed. These horses are flying folks, but the other horses aren't interested in this speed duel, they are letting them go. At the back of the pack, Cold Wave is on the move, but no one notices because right in the middle of the pack Native Son and Romancing Superstitions are making a move! Native Son and Romancing Superstitions are matched, nose and nose, stride for stride. Look at that folks! Their legs are in time with each other as they leave CS True Legacy behind! The crowd is on its feet as we speed through the turn and onto the backstretch. Native Son and Romancing Superstitions are catching up to WB Pretty in Pink and SBS Tropic Topic WP. WB Pretty In Pink fades quickly on the inside with SBS Tropic Topic WP still with her. Native Son and Romancing Superstitions, all eyes on them as they pull away from the field on the backstretch, what a daring move, will they have anything left? But look! Cold Wave has passed CS True Legacy and Tropical Storm! Look at that amazing comeback folks! He trails the leaders by several lengths but so does everyone else! As we sweep into the turn the twins up front seem to slow a bit, maybe that was too much energy wasted! Cold Wave is catching, and so it CS True Legacy. Tropical Storm isn't far behind and SBS Tropic Topic WP is only a next in front of WB Pretty In Pink. Something's happening up front! Native Son and Romancing Superstitions are fading fast, but more from Romancing Superstitions. The two seemed to have touched or bumped slightly! Cold Wave is on top of the pair, and is around just in time for the stretch, with CS True Legacy right on his tail! AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME! Cold Wave is increasing the distance between him and the field, the jockey looks back and shows Cold Wave the whip and kicks up the speed another notch. Cs True Legacy is a have a length in front of Native Son, who seems to finally be free of Romancing Superstitions, who is fading fast! Romancing Superstitions is being pulled WAY to the outside, and the jockey seems to be trying to pull the filly up, but she's still trying to run! Native Son seems to have found a little bit more energy as he pulls up next to CS True Legacy. Tropical Storm is not far behind with SBS Tropic Topic WP and WB Pretty in Pink right behind! It looks like that's the order folks! And yes it is! Cold Wave wins after an amazing comeback, and two ridiculous speed duels! CS True Legacy finishes second with Native Son third. Tropical Storm finishes fourth and SBS Tropic Topic WP close fifth, which leaves WB Pretty in Pink to pick up 6th. Romancing Superstitions finished several lengths behind the field as her jockey is still struggling to pull her up. Her lead pony gallops up next to her and they get the impressive filly to slow to walk, and she's got a slight limp folks. Her jockey is on the ground now and it looks like they re going to take her back to the vet to get checked out. That's it for us here at the Belmont Stakes, what and exciting day. And Congratulations to Cold wave, for finally getting the win he keep missing! _________________________________ OFFICIAL RESULTS WIN: Cold Wave PLACE: CS True Legacy SHOW: Native Son 4TH: Tropical Storm 5TH: SBS Tropic Topic WP 6TH: WB Pretty In Pink 7TH: Romancing Superstitions All results done by Katie using http://www.randomizer.org.
