The Preakness Stakes RESULTS Welcome to the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown! This prestigious race of The Triple Crown is held at the Pimlico Track in Baltimore, Maryland. Fondly known as the “run for the black-eyed susans”, the race itself was named after a winner of Pimlico’s inaugural stakes. As they line of for the loading gate, Perfect Unage, CJS Purple Heaven and Flame Dancer go in smoothly, but Run for the Money balks before allowing himself to be loaded. Crème a la Mode is no exception, with a bit of bucking, but she’s in now. Madame Toubinski, Silver Lining and Golden’s Local Star have no problems. Moon Dance Ecips giving a snort, but walks in like a lady, let’s hope she stays calm! Scorching Might with excellent manners. And they’re off! It’s Flame Dancer off to an early start, with Crème a la Mode a nose behind him, Perfect Unage settling in third. CJS Purple Heaven, Scorching Might and Silver Lining evenly matched for fourth, trapping Madame Toubinski behind them, while Run for the Money settling behind her. Golden’s Local Star and Moon Dance Eclips bringing up the rear. Some jostling is going on, with CJS Purple Heaven, Scorching Might and Silver Lining constantly battle for who’s nose is in front, and Madame Toubinski quite stuck behind them, looking for an opening. Crème a la Mode is creeping up in Flame Dancer, who maintains. As they enter the backstretch, Flame Dancer is still in front, but Madame Toubinski has decided to power up around the outside and is just in front of Scorching Might, who also has left the others behind. CJS Purple Heaven right behind the blacks, with Perfect Unage a neck behind. Run for the Money making no move yet, Crème a la Mode dropping back, falling just in front of Silver Lining. Golden’s Local Star and Moon Dance Eclips still trailing the pack. Positions are maintained, though there are some private speed duels going on between horses! And as they round the final turn, its Silver Lining in first! Moon Dance Eclips is kicking in beautifully, and is gaining on him, with CJS Purple Heaven and Run for the Money right on her heels! Golden’s Local Star is also up from behind, and is leading Madame Toubinski by a nose, and behind them is a recovered Crème a la Mode, with Flame Dancer dropped back. Scorching Might and Perfect Unage have been left behind in the charge! But now Madame Toubinski is making her move, sweeping up past the other horses, just behind the leader with Crème a la Mode directly behind! Scorching Might has found his stride and is simply bounding past horses to try for glory, and as they’re under the wire, its Madame Toubinski who wins! Madame Toubinski in first, Crème a la Mode short of a neck, with Scorching Might three lengths back. Golden’s Local Star in fourth, Flame Dancer maintaining for a fifth. Perfect Unage and CJS Purple Heaven right behind in sixth and seventh, Run for the Money, Silver Lining and Moon Dance Eclips bringing up the rear.
